Shohei Ohtani’s baseball skills are so impressive that they're outpacing the game developers. Konami had to buff him up in a videogame which isn't out yet.
Yahoo! Japan and Nikkan Sports (spotted by Automaton) have reported that Konami has buffed LA Dodgers' two-way player Shohei Ahtani in a upcoming baseball match in response to his incredible performances this year.
The 30-year old pitcher and designated hitter has already been hailed as one of the greatest athletes to ever play the game. He is one of the few baseball players who excels at both hitting and pitching. Although he hasn't been able to play this year due to an elbow injury, Ohtani still managed to break a record by becoming first MLB player to hit 50 home runs in a season and steal 50 bases. He has 53 home runs and 55 stolen bases, and there are games left to play.
Konami has reportedly upgraded Ohtani’s special base-stealing ability in Professional Baseball Spirits, a region locked baseball game that releases in Japan in October, from a “C” to an “A”.
According to Sankei Digital's Iza, Japanese baseball players are making fun of the news on social networks, claiming that reality is outpacing developers and that representing Ohtani (who is sometimes called a "create-a player" in real life) true ability in the video game is the same as using hacks to cheat.
The LA Dodgers lead the National League West heading into the playoffs this year, which begin in October. I'm also a little disappointed that I cannot play Professional Baseball Spirits, which I heard about for the first-time--it looks really cool.
