Skyblivion's latest trailer shows off some beautiful Oblivion locations, but also some boring Oblivion missions.

If everything goes according to plan, we will be playing Oblivion in Skyrim next. The latest Skyblivion trailer shows the project looking smooth (apart for one discolored face, and a horse that is walking without going anywhere), and highlights two quests around and in the town of Chorrol. Chorrol looks colorful and lush, with some pretty windmills outside and a fountain in front of the Mages Guild. The quests are bland and boring, but everything looks so beautiful.

This is a game where there are a lot of sidequests that are more interesting than the central quest, such as the Dark Brotherhoood, Thieves Guild, Fighters Guild, and Daedric Shrine questlines. It's odd to demo such a boring sidequest in a game that has so many more interesting quests, like the Dark Brotherhoood and Thieves Guild questlines. This first mission has you retrieving a spellbook and then giving you the option to return it to either of two rival wizards. You can give it to either wizard, but the other will demand it back. The quest ends in either case with you earning a commendation. Yawn.

The Killing Field is another side quest that you can do. You help two brothers defend their farmhouse from goblins. I wonder how many reloads were needed to ensure that neither brother was hit by the player even when they were using lightning magic. This quest was a chaotic melee. They were always running in front as I attacked. But then my horse joined the fight. This probably didn't help.

You get different rewards from the father of the boys depending on whether or not you protect one, both, and/or neither of them. The state of the farm will also change to reflect this. It's nice, I suppose, but I haven't ever been around a farm to pay attention.

This video is still impressive as it showcases Skyblivion’s visuals. Chorrol has also been remade and the ruins of Cloud Top remade. Skyblivion is updating Oblivion dungeons with unique looks that are suited to the region. This project interests me because it will bring these changes to life. I can't imagine how The Shivering Isles will look when Skyblivion is released in 2025.
