Star Wars: Episode 1 is back with Jedi Power Battles for some unfathomable reason
Star Wars: Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles, which was originally released on PlayStation in April 2000, will be re-released on Steam on January 25, 2025. Jedi Power Battles will be back thanks to Aspyr, a publisher and specialist in game ports. I'm not certain who asked for this game to be brought back in 2025. It is a classic game tie-in that was made during the era when every major blockbuster had a game tie-in. Jedi Power Battles, a difficult-at times arcade-style couch-co-op video game from 2000, is still remembered fondly by many people.
Jedi Power Battles is a frustrating platformer that also features a full-on beat 'em up. Your jedi characters will smash down many droids. Just. So many robots. You have to avoid laser walls that are inexplicable while you navigate the bottomless chasms of the Star Wars universe.
Take back the Theed royal palace in this fast-paced lightsaber action. You will use the Force and your lightsaber to fight off legions of battle-droids and destroyer-droids as well as assassins and other creatures in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace," says the official description. I'd guess that it is the same description as 25 years ago.
The game will include both the classic characters from its original release and previously locked characters with guns and stuff. It will also include the original couch co-op two-player mode, which is why so many people remember this game. Arcade-style stuff thrives in an environment like that.
The re-release includes both a classic style of play and a New Game+ style.
The store says: "Use classic control schemes or modern ones, toggle your Lightsaber color to match the films. Enjoy new playable characters like the Tusken Raider. Enter classic cheat codes such as Big Head Mode. Discover more surprises in this 25th Anniversary celebration of Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles."
You can find it under the the embarassingly-formatted title of "Star Wars(tm): Episode I: Jedi Power Battles(tm)" on Steam.
