Only very expensive Gen 5 SSDs are faster. Normally, the XS70 costs much more than this. So getting 2 TBs of fast solid state storage at a price less than $140 right now is a great bargain.

Not so long ago, I recommended Gen 4 SSDs with 1 TB of storage as the best compromise between speed, capacity and price. With game sizes increasing, it's better to choose something with 2TB of storage. I wouldn't upgrade to anything smaller now.

Which one should you choose? The WD Black SN850X is the best SSD for gaming, but prices have risen significantly in recent years. The Lexar NM790, a budget option, is a good choice, but it doesn't have a DRAM caching system, so it's not the best if you move around large files a lot.

The Silicon Power XS70 is now on stage. It is equipped with 172-layer Micron NAND chips, the well-respected Phison E18 Controller and 2 GB DDR4 RAM. It's incredibly fast, and the stylish heatsink keeps it cool even when it is being used hard.

The XS70 is also fully compliant with the requirements for use as an SSD expansion on the PlayStation 5. If you want to add a ton of storage to this console, it would be a great option.

There's nothing better for PC gaming and certainly not at this price. If you're looking for more performance, Gen 5 (PCIe 5.x) is the way to go. However, they are more expensive and run hotter.

The Silicon Power XS70 4 TB model is only $247 on Amazon. This is more than twice the capacity at less than twice the price of the previous 2 TB model.

The only downside to the Silicon Power XS70 SSD is the support application, which allows you to monitor the status of the SSD, test its performance, and securely erase the data. It looks like it's from the Windows XP era and lacks any cloning or transferring tools. This is something you get with more expensive SSDs.

The Silicon Power XS70 SSD is a great upgrade for any gaming computer.
