The Case of the Golden Idol is doing so well, it's getting an upgrade to the definitive edition for free.
The Case of the Golden Idol, a game that is a true classic, will be updated to a definitive edition next week -- on October 10 -- as The Case of the Golden Idol Reloaded. The edition is free for all Steam owners and includes several years' worth of updates since the 2022 release date and DLCs from 2023, not to mention its release on mobile and consoles.
"A lot of improvements have been made to the original as a result from porting the game onto a new engine. The Case of the Golden Idol is now more enjoyable to play thanks to a revamped UI, new hint system, new localizations, improved readability, and improvements to save.
The Case of the Golden Idol has won the PC Gamer Award for Best Story in 2022.
"I can't remember another time when this happened while playing a video game, but I thought as I finished The Case of the Golden Idol and the final pieces of the story fell into place: 'This could have been a wonderful novel.' A deep and fascinating tale unfolds one tiny sliver of the story, which is spread across a dozen murders involving a mysterious idol.
When you launch the game, and transfer the story progress from the older version to the Redux, you'll have the option to choose the final PC release or the updated Redux version.
If you haven't played it yet, The Case of the Golden Idol comes with a free demo on Steam.
