The first academic Warhammer conference in Germany is taking place now. There will be talks on 'authority, pluralism and the grim darkness of a far future' as well as 'Tyranids xenobiology.

This weekend, my partner will be joining me at one of the local fall festivals. I'm looking forward to a merry flurry of apple cider donuts and local crafts. I'll also be sampling the offerings of regional distilleries. I need this to distract me from the fact that across the Atlantic at the University of Heidelberg enlightened minds will be convening for panels such as "In the Name of The Emperor? Authority and Pluralism In the Grim Darkness of the Far Future and "Are We the Baddies?" are two panels I'm looking forward to attending. The Ethical Implications Of The Imperium's Wars With Chaos And The Inverted Meaning Of Order."

The Warhammer Conference is the "world's first academic event dedicated to Warhammer." It hosts over 50 presentations by philosophers and theorists who are presenting their scholarly appraisals on Space Marines, Genestealer Cults, and fanfic. The two-day event ends tomorrow and I've never been so disappointed that I didn’t pursue academia. I would have been consigned to a life of financial and emotional turmoil, but i'd also have had more excuses to hear the world's smartest sickos dive into their passions.

One of the panels will be called "Tyranids xenobiology" and compares them to real-life eusocial insect species. It will "examine possible mechanisms that determine Tyranids and whether they are influenced externally by factors such as food and chemical signals or are genetically determined", through comparisons with primitive and more developed termite species. I'll be in the line for cider donuts for at least forty minutes.

The website says that "all sessions will recorded and we will try to share them after conference." Thank god for that. If I didn't, I would have to spend $2,000 to get to Germany for "What happened with the Lost Primarchs?" Or, a case where the invitation is incomplete.
