The first trailer for Squid Game Season 2 shows player 456 returning the lion's Den, as the creator confirms a English-language adaptation
The second season of Squid Game has a new trailer. If you haven't seen the first, do yourself a favor and don't spoil it. Squid Game was Netflix's largest-ever launch, and a global hit. It followed 456 indebted participants taking part in a deadly series of childrens' games to win huge cash prizes. All were observed and controlled by an shadowy cabal, which is basically rich sadists.
The first season ended in the victory of Lee Jung-jae's character, 456 Seong-hun. He walks away with a huge cash prize, which should solve all of his life problems, but he is so traumatised that he vows to avenge. Squid Game 2 takes place three years after the original series. Gi-hun returns to the games with new competitors. The trailer focuses on how players can vote to end events or continue to win bigger prizes.
We see the familiar masked security guards, and the first game is a repeat from season one: Red Light Green Light. The giant doll is at the far end of the arena, facing the opposite direction. Competitors must move towards it, but stop when the doll turns. Gi-hun tries to explain how it works to the players, but a woman panics due to a bee and is shot in the head. Gi-hun then tells the players that he has been here before, and they must get out. But some don't listen, others think he is a fake, and some are just focused on the piggy bank full of cash.
In Season 2, Gi-hun who survived Season 1 returns to the games. Not to win, but to end these games," Hwang Donghyuk, Squid Game’s writer, producer and director, told Reuters. "There will be more characters and more interesting games this time. They are all worth the viewers' support and love."
"Gi-hun has changed a lot in Season 2," said Lee Jung-jae, the actor. "This time he wants revenge. He wants to find the people who are behind the games, and bring them to justice.
Hwang was asked about a recent Deadline article, which stated that David Fincher was currently working on a version of Squid Game in English.
Hwang confirmed the news by saying, "I don't believe it's official just yet. I can't tell you much more." "But, you're right, I respect his work as a creator and filmmaker." If he does, I look forward to watching it.
Netflix is keen to maximise its return on Squid Game. This is especially true in light of the fact that streaming competitors Amazon and MrBeast have essentially stolen the idea for the new Beast Games. Netflix has a huge subscriber base and needs to prove that it can produce regular hits that will retain and grow its audience in the face of fierce competition. Netflix reported that Squid Game Season 1 was watched 1.65 billion times during its first four weeks.
Netflix will release the second series of Squid Game on 26 December 2024. The platform announced that the third and last season of Squid Game would be released in 2025 during the season two promotional event.
