The Lake House expansion will be released just in time for Halloween.
The Lake House is the second expansion coming to Alan Wake 2. We've been aware of it for almost a full year, but it's great to see it in action. The Lake House is Alan Wake 2's second expansion. While the first DLC Night Springs let players immerse themselves in a fictional TV series, The Lake House will reveal the catastrophic event that occurred within the Federal Bureau of Control research station this October.
In a tweet, Remedy Entertainment's creative director Sam Lake said that while he took a rest in a cabin near a lake, Kyle Rowley and Clay Murphy worked on The Lake House with the rest Alan Wake's brilliant team. "It is shaping up to something special." "By special, I mean frightening."
The trailer says: "This expansion unfolds in parallel to the main gameplay, putting you into the shoes of FBC Agent Kiran Estevez." "Dive into an eerie, survival horror experience in the latest Alan Wake 2 expansion set on the shores Cauldron lake. A catastrophic event has taken place in the Lake House research station of the FBC, where reckless experiments caused reality to collide the Dark Place.
Some fans believe that the expansion will occur before Estevez meets Saga Anderson, one of Alan Wake 2’s protagonists, and before the FBC captures Alan. This is supported by some dialogue: "It's the Bureau research facility in Cauldron Lake. It was set up to study AWE effects," Estevez tells Anderson, at the wrecked station. "When I arrived in town, I went to the police station for backup. The Shadow has taken over the station. I lost a lot agents and barely made it out."
In retrospect, it's a great setting for Alan Wake 2 as well as a story I'd like to know more about. I was not thinking about checking on the Lake House when I played Alan Wake 2. I don't even think I listened to Estevez as she told me about it, because I was so focused on cracking the code for the Sheriff's Shotgun. I didn't get it because I was too dumb to understand the hint (it still haunts my mind).
The Lake House might not be a mere extension of Alan Wake 2. As the FBC is an important part of Control's storyline, it's likely that we'll see some Control easter egg references. Kyle Rowley, the game director for Alan Wake 2, has confirmed that Control is important to a certain extent. "Dive into Control through the lense of Alan Wake in this horror survival experience!"
