The Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver remasters will also be coming to PC

Crystal Dynamics announced a remaster collection of the first and second Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver games, more than 25 years after the launch of the first game. Aspyr, which was responsible for the well received remasters of Tomb Raider's first three games, is behind the HD ports. The package was revealed at Sony's State of Play event yesterday, but now they've been confirmed for PC.

The original versions of the games were previously available on Steam. They have since been removed and replaced with their modernised versions. The trailer below gives a good idea of what to expect. Both games will still look like 3D action games from the late '90s, but with sharper textures, smoother framesrates, and upgraded visual effects.

The additions include a "upgraded" camera, a photo mode and new control options. The original PlayStation version of these games was released at a time where analog sticks were not very popular. So the new controls and camera are welcome additions. There's a new map and compass in the game. I don't know if this is controversial, but these games are more like 3D labyrinths than the Tomb Raider Series.

Steam and Epic Games Store, as well as all consoles, will release the remasters on December 10. Rick Lane's retrospective is a great read if you have never played Soul Reaver and are curious about the hype.
