I tuned in to Sony's State of Play to see if the unfounded rumours of Resident Evil 9 were true. While that was a complete disappointment, it was nice to get a glimpse of a new horror game called The Midnight Walk.
I'll never miss a horror game. But The Midnight Walk is particularly interesting because it's entirely handcrafted in ceramic. It's like if Sackboy had been made by Tim Burton.
According to the Steam page, "Everything in The Midnight Walk was first sculpted with clay, and then 3D-scanned to an incredibly detailed level." The result is a layered fantasy world with a unique artistic imprint, all realized in breathtaking stop-motion.
MoonHood developers, who worked on Lost in Random and Ghost Giant VR puzzle games, both with similar art styles, recently shared their thoughts on how it feels to work with clay. The developers' answers ranged from "It is clay, and it is fun", which was very true, to saying "that you can actually see the fingerprints. That's really cool."
The first trailer was a bit blurry as I tried to make sense of the cool and frightening monsters. The Burnt One (the playable character) is shown befriending a lantern creature named Potboy. This character reminds me the most of Sackboy. According to a press statement, you and Potboy will use his flame to "light your path through a world of wonders and horrors." "Journey through the twisted trail The Midnight Walk to survive by outsmarting horrifying monsters eagerly waiting to devour your little buddy's flame."
The Midnight Walk has no official release date, but it will be available for both PC and PSVR. This is great news, because I don't want this game to be left out.
