The modders of Fallout: London offered him free work but accidentally left him on read.

I find Fallout: London to be a truly impressive game, even though my first few hours consisted of three crashes and one game. It's still doing better, but after a few patches, the developers say that one of the most ambitious Fallout mod projects should be "solid and rock-solid".

I wonder if that ambition is what attracted Neil Newbon to the project. You probably know him as Baldur's Gate 3 Astarion. He signed on to voice one of the characters in the mod. You'd have thought Team FOLON, the devs, would have jumped at the chance to hire an actor with Newbon's talent, but they left him on read. For more than a year.

Newbon revealed in a video interview with GINX TV that he had reached out to Team FOLON a year prior to joining the project. "I sent them a message about a year ago." It was probably two years ago. I want to get involved.

"And they missed the message. "For about that year and half." Hey, I get it. I'd like to take a moment to apologize to everyone who has a reply to send. It's not you. It's me. It's funny that someone so talented and whose name has become so big as Newbon was relegated to a folder that held the devs Tesco Clubcard offers over the past two years.

Newbon, however, was not deterred. It sounded like Team FOLON had only just realised the potential of its mod after BG3's meteoric rise to fame. "I love Fallout, and this mod is free. That's no problem." I'd be happy to help."

Newbon is now in the mod. He doesn't seem to mind falling down the back of Team FOLON's couch either. He says the devs have been "very sweet, kind" since they got in contact. "Apparently one of them said to the rest of devs, 'I got this message on Twitter from him, but I don’t know who this is, you should get back to this person.'

Plus, despite BG3’s success, Newbon still seems to be willing to work for free. "I also liked the fact that it was a free modification. We were not paid. "We just did it because it was what we wanted to do," said the actor. "There's always a risk that when actors are successful, indie developers, double A's, or whatever, think they can't pay you. This is nonsense... Because we're jobbing actors, at the end of day. It's nice to remind people we're actually doing it for the craft."
