The Steam Deck is 25% off but it may not be the model that you want

Do I sometimes look at the webpage steamdeck.com/en/oled with longing, wishing my launch Steam Deck had that better battery life, that luxurious screen, and that quieter cooling? Would it be embarrassing for me to admit this? Instead, I could say that while the OLED updates are attractive, they aren't important enough to make me spend $550 on a second Steam Deck. I would be in trouble if Valve discounted the OLED Steam Deck the same way it does the 512GB LCD.

Valve is offering 25% off its top-end 512GB etched-glass LCD Steam Deck, dropping it from $449 down to $336.75. I have to say that this is a great price for the Deck's premium version before the OLED was introduced. It's still a great handheld device for playing games.

The entry-level 64GB LCD Steam deck is only 15% off. That still brings its price to just below $300. But that's only better if you open it up and want to add your own 1TB+ SDD to it. The store page warns that you should grab this deal while it's hot: "The 64GB LCD Steam Deck models are being phased-out," meaning they will be gone once the stock is sold out.

After the sale, the 256GB model will be the only one left of the Steam Deck launch line. It costs $400, which is $150 less than the lowest-priced OLED. I'm waiting to see what AMD, Valve and their next-gen APUs will be like when they launch in early 2025.
