The UK's wealthiest game developers and influencers list puts Garry's Mod creators neck-and-neck against Rockstar founders. But the richest gaming brothers are worth PS12.5 billion.

I may scoff at the endless, rapacious, pursuit of wealth that defines our society. But at the end of it all, I want to know who is making the big bucks, and imagine what I would do with them. The Sunday Times just released its Rich List, which includes the 30 richest figures in the UK gaming industry.

Igor and Dmitry Bukhman are at the top of this list. I had never heard their names, nor of their games or studio before seeing this list. The brothers founded Playrix and are the owners of a 4,000-person-strong mobile game developer. Their most notable releases include Township, Fishdom Homescapes and Gardenscapes. I guess I am happy for them, and their eye-watering PS12.5billion fortune.

You'll find two rich PC gamers you may recognize: Dan and Sam Houser. They claim an estimated PS350-million fortune. Their fortune was built by Rockstar Games' breakout hits, The Warriors in 2005, and Bully (2006). Rockstar's success with these games has allowed them to pursue less lucrative passion projects, such as Grand Theft Auto or Red Dead Redemption.

Garry Newman, the creator of Garry's Mod, is ranked #6. It shouldn't surprise me. Garry's Mod, a PC game that is ubiquitous, costs $10. Newman's Facepunch Studios also created the highly successful Rust. His deep pockets make me less concerned about Newman’s upcoming Skibidi Toilet legal battles.

The 30-person list is full of interesting facts: PewDiePie, creator of Vampire Survivors and founder of poncle, is still a very wealthy man, and Luca Galante at #26 made my heart melt. It's a little disappointing and not surprising that only three women made the list. However, I'm not sure if the phrase "more women in UK games industry 1%", should be our next rallying call for gender equality. We can all agree that the people I admire and like on the list, like Galante and Newman, are just cool guys who got lucky and also have talent. The rest of the list should pay more taxes.
