ASRock is a favorite around here during busy shopping seasons. The screens are always on sale, and based on the one we used (read our review), they offer good value. This 165 Hz panel is available for under $100, so you can't complain.

One day, I tell myself I'll upgrade my system from the ground-up. As my modest budget dictates, this is not the day. Between now and then, I've got to conserve my funds and think about smart, incremental, quality-of-life-improving upgrades. One purchase I could make would be a second screen for all the Dragon Age: The Veilguard Fanfiction that I don't read during work hours.

I've already talked about my plans to upgrade to a 4K gaming monitor, but, as the song goes from Book of Mormon, "Every hero has to have a sidekick. Every captain needs to have a mate. And every dinner needs to be served on a smaller plate." Here's the best deal on a second monitor that I've seen this week. It's the ASRock 27-inch Phantom Gaming monitor, which is only $100 at Newegg.

ASRock is a relatively new player in the monitor world, but Jeremy was impressed with their 34-inch ultrawide 165 Hz budget panel last year. The specs of this 27-inch 1080p monitor, which is a lot less flashy than the previous model, are also impressive. You can do more than just read a crisp Word document...or wait for the next chapter of your favourite fanfic.

ASRock Phantom Gaming 27" monitor is an IPS screen, which offers vivid colours. If this is the only option you have for your journey into Tevinter. You could do worse for less than $100.

The Phantom Gaming Monitor's 165-Hz rapid refresh rate also isn't too bad. If your hardware can handle the hair technology in The Veilguard, FreeSync Premium ensures that your frame rate and refresh rate will remain stable even if your don't use that upper 165Hz limit. Your adventures in Tevinter won't be marred by screen tears.

There are only a few downsides to this monitor. The monitor stand can only be tilted or swiveled. There is no way to adjust its height, so you'll need to choose the right perch.

Second, 27-inch wide 1080p monitors are not known for their high pixel density. This means that this backup monitor may struggle to perform if it is recast as your main monitor. Even so, an understudy is a great way to help a star shine.

This budget pick is still a great value for money. This monitor is powerless to stop those goofy Darkspawn graphics.
