This mod brings TF2 to CoD Zombies, which is even more impressive when you consider that it would normally be the opposite.
It's a rare treat to discover a game that you've never heard of has a modding community with some clever people doing some amazing work. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is a game released in 2015, but it still receives new workshop content nearly a decade after its release.
Enter TF2 Zombie: A loving recreation 2Fort, a map that is so iconic in gaming and recognisable that only Dust can beat it. All within Black Ops 3 FPSpsycho has shown it below. However, considering that the map had 43,520 subscribers as of the time of writing, and was posted in may, it's already been around for a while.
The attention to detail is what's impressive. This isn't a simple asset flip with CoD models destroying the place. The base game mode was recreated using TF2 assets. All of its models were swapped. Even the mode's bonuses, such as Double-Tap Root Beer and Stamin-Up, have their own custom Bonk. The cans of energy drinks are in-universe.
The only thing that makes this look like a GMOD or a GMOD server is the Black Ops 3 Zombies shambling around and the unmistakable feel of its physics engines. The map was created for the Noahj456 Mapping Contest by a group of 17 modders. (I exclude Valve for obvious reasons.)
The contest is the third in its kind. It was organized by YouTuber Noahj456. He, among other things seems determined to inject cash into modding communities so that they can stay alive and kicking. The $10,000 bounty was announced for this contest, and the list of participants included Lethal Company, GoldenEye700, Arkham Knight, and, um, Spyro 2? I don't want to think about zombie Spyro. It's too upsetting.
The TF2 map was only ranked 23rd by Noahj456, but the competition was fierce. Modders recreated The Last of Us: Left Behind and Stranger Things' Racoon City Police Station from Resident Evil 2. This kind of niche, hyper specific modding -- kept afloat by groups of enthusiasts (and sometimes wealthy YouTubers) -- is what makes PC gaming so great.
