Voice actor Peter Renaday who played Duncan in Dragon Age: Origins has died at the age of 89
Peter Renaday died. He was a voice actor with a variety of roles, both in videogames as well as on TV.
Townsend Coleman, a friend and fellow voice actor, announced the news on Twitter earlier in the week. Coleman wrote: "Folks I'm devastated to learn this morning of the death yesterday of our beloved sensei, Peter. Pete was the most honest, down-to-earth person I have ever met and I will miss his dearly.
"I had the pleasure of visiting him a few months ago and he seemed as vibrant as ever. At 89, he was just as endearingly funny, smart and gifted as I've known him to always be. Ugh, it's hard... a Disney Legend and our dear Master Splinter -- rest well, my sweetest friend."
TMZ reports, while the cause of death has not yet been confirmed, local law enforcement conducted a wellness check on Sunday, September 8, after receiving a phone call, where his body was found. The report states that "the death appears to have been natural and is not being handled as a case by a medical examiner." Renaday was aged 89.
Renaday's videogame roles include the voice of the stoic, determined Grey Warden Duncan, as well as Al-Mualim, in both Assassin's Creed Revelations and Assassin's Creed. Renaday's other work includes Master Splinter from the original 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series, as well as a fleet of supporting characters in animation and video games, ranging from Samurai Jack and Gears of War 3 to Samurai Jack.
You can also hear him in Disney's Hall of Presidents, as Abraham Lincoln delivering the Gettysburg Address. Renaday was married until 2011 to Florence "Flo June" Daniel. She was a secretary at Walt Disney Studios for 35 years and her voice is heard on "The Sounds of Christmas", released in 1973, alongside Renaday.
Bioware, the developer of the Dragon Age games, also released a statement via its Twitter account. It reads: "BioWare was saddened to learn of the death of Peter Renaday. The talented voice actor who played Duncan, one of Dragon Age’s most beloved Grey Wardens. His performance in DA Origins brought his character to life, and his death has had an impact on the community. "Our thoughts are with his friends and family during this difficult time."
