What else would you like from this micro-scale cooking simulation that has made me hungry?

The risk of writing about games in the early morning hours, when the stores are closed, and it is hard to justify cooking anything in the kitchen, is rarely mentioned. I am very hungry and I will continue to be so as I stare at this physics driven cooking sim.

This is a game that does exactly what it says. A micro-simulator at a budget price. You have a food order (usually steak but you can unlock pancakes, fish, and bread), a hot cast iron pan, and a plate of sides waiting for the jiggly floppy meaty center. You'll have to cook the food according to the requested level of doneness using only your intuition and your eyes. Impress the judges/customers and you can spend your points to unlock more features.

It may not have the same narrative weirdness as Arctic Eggs (at least at first), but it doesn't require you to do anything as heinous like fry a plate full of cigarettes and sardines still in their cans. I must admit, the simulation seems to nail some of more interesting subtleties in cooking a steak. For example, it will strongly adhere to your pan if it is flipped too early. You have to let it develop a dry outer sear before you can loosen its grip. Every time I write about it, I get more hungry.

Just Grill the Steak is one of the more normal games that Japanese micro indie studio Kimidori Soft have produced. Forklift Load is a low-budget game that's more post-apocalyptic than you might expect for a game about driving forklifts. Sacabambaspis Chronology is a multiplayer action-RPG that features a doofy-looking prehistoric fish on its quest to survive in a hostile future.

The store page for Just Grill the Steak mentions one particularly bizarre bug in the kitchen. A single texture (the pre-cooked surface of pancakes) was generated by AI. Kimidori Soft has made some bizarre decisions. I think this is one of the most puzzling. If that's still not enough to make you want to eat a freshly regrilled fluffy pancake, then the game is now available. Now I really want to cook, but can't. Curse you, Kimidori soft. Curse you, Kimidori soft.
