What to expect from Stalker 2's first patch

GSC Game World sent out a message thanking everyone who purchased Stalker 2 Heart of Chornobyl. They also let us know what to expect from the patch, which will be released "during the next week."

The first patch will primarily address major crashes and game-breaking progress stops that prevent people from continuing to play the game as it currently is. There are also other requested changes such as the value of weapons that have upgrades installed, and the behavior of NPCs when seeking shelter during Emission Events, along with some graphics and user-interface fixes.

Stalker 2 is a big hit, despite its bugs. It has sold over 1 million copies, and even more players have joined through Game Pass. I can't even imagine how long it would have taken for the first game, Shadow of Chernobyl, to sell a million copies. But it wasn't "pretty quickly."

Bugfixes for the A-Life system are the major bugs that people will be disappointed to hear about. The game system, which tracks and controls the activities of people and animals in The Zone when you are not there, has been a mess since launch. Videos on social media also show some strange NPC-spawning behavior.

GSC confirmed that Stalker 2 has the A-Life System, but also confirmed that it does have some issues that need to be fixed.

Mol1t, community manager at GSC Game World, wrote in the Stalker Discord that "there are several known issues" with A-life 2.0. We are aware of these issues and are working to fix/improve them. "We understand that this system is crucial to the Zone's immersive atmosphere and will do our best fix the known issues."

"We want to reassure everyone that we will continue to improve your S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl Experience We are grateful for all your feedback and suggestions to improve," said GSC in its upcoming post on changes.

Here's a list of the changes that GSC Game World confirmed will be coming in the next update:

  • Crash Fixes include:
    • Memory allocation issues and rendering problems, which caused the game to crash unexpectedly in the past, especially around quest-related cutscenes, skeletal meshes and rendering.
  • Main Quest Progression Fixes include:
    • There are several bugs that block the main quest progression. NPCs get stuck in objects, quest markers are incorrect, and there are issues with cutscenes.
    • Revision of main quests such as Visions of Truth and A Minor Incident to ensure smooth transitions. This will avoid rare cases of players being unable to continue.
  • Gameplay & Balance adjustments, including:
    • Fixing the price of weapons with attachments installed in comparison to their value without attachments.
    • NPCs' behavior, such as their actions when they are without a shelter in the Emissions.
  • Cutscenes & Visual Fixes, including:
    • Visual inconsistencies such as detached heads, clothes clipping, and misplaced NPCs are common.
    • Visual effects are now of higher quality and more stable.
  • Softlock Fixes include:
    • Problem where players could not close the trade screen when they put ammo into the wrong slot on a gamepad.
  • User Interface Improvements including:
    • Quest notifications are now correctly displayed during dialogues.
    • Texts corrected and missing interaction prompts.
  • Noted for future updates:
    • Analogue sticks dead zones bugfixes.
    • A-Life bug fixes.
