When did 1000 W PSUs become so affordable? This Super Flower Platinum is only $125!
Did I miss it? I thought a 1000W PSU was something you'd spend a few hundred dollars on, but now they're available for much less. This is a huge change from the days when cryptocurrency mining and high power demands caused these high wattage units to sell for above average prices.
This PSU is the Super Flower Leadex PlatinumSE, a 1000W power supply with an efficiency rating of 80 Plus Platinum. Newegg is currently offering it for $125 instead of $250.
Super Flower is a brand you might not know, but they are becoming more well-known for their power supplies. They're not new to the market, they've been making power supplies for many years. Previously, they would manufacture them as OEMs under other brands such as EVGA. Super Flower actually manufactured the G2, one of EVGA’s most popular PSUs.
This PSU has a 10-year guarantee, which is something we've come expect from a good PSU in the modern age. It gives us some peace of mind. It also has a white finish that would look great in the build I'm currently putting together. It's modular, but it's missing a 12VHPWR connector or the even more modern 12V-2x6.
The efficiency of this unit is what I find most impressive. The 80 Plus Platinum badge is on the box. This means that it's among the most efficient PSUs. At 50% load it will be efficient up 92% at 115 V or 94% on 230 V.
It's worth mentioning that, among other companies, Corsair is moving to a new rating system for power supplies. This is being led by Cybenetics. The 80 Plus ratings are still valid.
This PSU is $140 cheaper than Be Quiet’s excellent Pure Power 12M, which is 80+ Gold rated. It's a great deal cheaper than an equivalent Corsair PSU at $235, though that PSU is still a very good one. The Super Flower may not be as innovative or as fancy as others, but it's still a great value for a simple, reliable design.
