You can now own the world's worst GPU for just $1,024 as a 'luxury bag'

Here's a question for you. What would you pay for an old, non-functional GPU that's been stuffed in a plastic case and finished with a gold chain so you could carry it around? It could depend on the graphics processor, so it doesn't matter if you hear that this is one of the worst GPUs ever. $500, $50, $5? What about $1,024? I thought so.

I like to see old chips turned into key fobs, and I also enjoy seeing graphics cards disassembled and mounted in a display case. I have some old chips that I want to use one day, but I won't glue them into a cheap plastic case with a strap to sell as a purse.

This is exactly what the online store GPU Purse does and the chip at issue is the mighty GeForce 730 (via Videocardz). This particular graphics card wasn't very good when it was launched in 2014. However, it was much better than the integrated GPU in your CPU. For office machines, this was a cheap and easy way to add multiple monitors to your computer.

You can still buy a GT 730 (such a this 4 GB Zotac for $80 on Amazon), but it's probably better to save the money and imagine that you have additional monitors.

It's a shame that they're still being sold. A decent monitor today will support DisplayPort daisy-chaining, and Intel's Arc 310 basic isn't very expensive. It comes with four DP ports and a good video encoder.

You should not not spend $1,024 for a GT 730 that comes in a plastic case with a chain. It's not because it's the world’s worst GPU, but because the craftsmanship is so poor for the price. Divide that figure by ten, and you'll see we are talking about more than the MSRP of a Radeon RX7900 XTX.

The seller also offers a Nvidia Hopper powered H100 megachip in case for $65,536. This price is equally absurd. You can buy a brand new H100 for less than half the price. You shouldn't because that is a ridiculous amount of money to spend for a single GPU. You won't be able to recoup that money anytime soon if you use it to do AI stuff.

It's hard to tell whether the 'GPU Luxury Purse' is real or not. The default Shopify storefront is a red flag, but GT 730s can be found for so little that it's easy to understand why someone would want to buy some broken ones to turn into something quirky and interesting.

It's probably best to leave this one alone. If you really like the idea, you can make one yourself. You will save a lot of money.
