The final major update to Baldur's gate 3 is here. It includes an in-game mod-browser, evil endings that are too horrible for streaming and new Honour Mode action that will make you shiver.

Baldur's Gate 3 has finally released its seventh and final patch. Like most major updates, this one is a real doozy. There aren't many major new features, which is good news for my sore, aching hands. (Though new modding tools will certainly make it easier to mod the game in the future).

As the notes state: "All stories must come to a close." Swen said at last week's PAX West in Seattle, our final live panel for Baldur’s Gate 3, that it was time for the team go back to their cave and hang up the armour while they focus on bringing to you our next project.

I'll try to summarise the contents of this document as best as I can. Even the abridged version is too long for me to just slap on this page. First, the new evil and dark desire endings.

These horrifying stopping points should work regardless of whether you are on a new playthrough or not. They are so evil that the explicit content toggle catches them all. As the notes state, the newly renamed "Show Sexual and Violent Cinematics", catches both streamer unfriendly sex scene andgratuitous violence. As stated in the notes:

This setting includes explicit content and a few moments of extreme violence which may be distressing for some. This setting may have also been a little too corrupting, as it includes the new evil ending cinematics. They are really that evil."

Also, they mention that, per a previous community update, it is temporary for the lovely Alfira, who is not in any danger, to join you and your companions for one night: "There aren't any new companions." There is only death."

The horrifying Honour Mode has been updated again, so I'm not certain I can brag about beating the game anymore. New legendary actions have been added to Malus Thorm, Bulette, Beholder-spawn (not crowd members), Gith encounters 2, and Ptaris. Because a 100+ hour permadeath RPG was not hard enough.

Mod manager and toolkit is enormous. Mods created with their official toolkit are now available to download and manage via an in-game web browser. This tool will allow you to install these creations and manage them in your multiplayer group.

There's also a slew of fixes, tweaks and improvements to the quality of life. Here are some highlights in no particular priority or order:

  • Split Screen gameplay has been redesigned to allow dynamic merging of screens when players are close together.
  • Custom Mode now allows you to use the ruleset from Honour Mode. Previously, you would have had to enter Custom Mode after making an Honour Mode Save, then die.
  • Mystra praises the fact that camp supplies should only be taken from the stack when needed. The number of times I accidentally used the suckers was far too close for comfort.
  • New voice lines for "edge-case flow" have been added.
  • You'll no longer have to worry about your companions being rude to an Astarion who hasn't ascended at the end of the match.
  • Grinch Astarion: Rest in peace. We barely knew you.
  • Pathfinding and gameplay problems have been fixed. For example, mage hands cannot eat your Noblestalks any more: "Yes, it's likely that your Mage Hand ate it." No, we do not know where its mouth was.

Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 7 is now available for download. You'll need to free up 160GB of space before you can install it. Or, uninstall and reinstall the patched version if your SSD has already been filled with Astarion and Shadowheart fanart.
