With one notable exception, nearly all of the essential Castlevania games are now available on PC.
Konami waited nearly three years to port the next set in the Castlevania series to PC. These games were originally released in late 2000s on the DS. What's a few more years in Dracula's life? Vlad Tepes only throws a party at his castle every century or so, so the wait between Dawn of Sorrow and Portrait of Ruin, Order of Ecclesia, and Order of Ecclesia is hardly a power nap.
The Anniversary Collection of Steam includes 16 classic 2D Castlevanias, so that's 16 classic 2D Castlevanias now available on PC. What else could we possibly ask for?
There is that game. It's a pretty obvious omission given how much Konami's back catalogue is now available on Steam. Everyone agrees that it's a great game. I think that everyone who is interested in Castlevania feels the same way after today's launch.
Where is the Castlevania Judgment Port, Konami?
I'm referring to the 3D fighting games released for the Nintendo Wii back in 2008, the ones with waggle controls and a story mode. Our colleagues at GamesRadar called it "not fun to play" when they gave it a 1.5-star review. Who could forget the game that led GameSpot to declare "fans of fighting, fun, or the franchise will find nothing of worth in this sloppy money-in?" I think this game should be in the Steam library!
You didn't believe I was talking about another game, did ya? What else is missing? Is it crazy that Konami brought Symphony of the Night to the PlayStation 4 but not to the PC?
Do I think it's leaving serious money on the table by not creating a modern PC version of co-op Castlevania-meets-Diablo riff Harmony of Despair, which has been stuck on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 for more than a decade?
Do I find it criminal that Konami has included the hack job port of Castlevania Rondo of Blood (Dracula X) in the Advance Collection but not Rondo of Blood? Am I crazy? Do not tell anyone I'm crazy.
I just want Konami know that those DS games really are great. Dawn of Sorrow is my personal favourite Castlevania. I'm only disappointed. I'm talking about the wait for Castlevania Judgment and not any of the other stuff.
