A new Cyberpunk board game crowdfunding campaign has reached its goal within 10 minutes, and is now over a million dollars.
This is either a sign of Cyberpunk's wildly reversible reputation, or the board game audience's insatiable appetite for games with a lot of components and a bunch plastic guys. Go On Board's fundraiser for Cyberpunk - The Board Game reached its $100,000 goal in just 10 minutes, 4 seconds. It has now passed the $1.9m mark and continues to rise.
This is the second Cyberpunk board game licensed by Cool Mini Or Not. The first was Cyberpunk: Gangs of Night City, which raised only $886,783 through Kickstarter.
I am not immune to the appeal of a box full of cool miniatures. I bought Cthulhu Death May Die - the coop game from CMON that raised $3 million on Kickstarter. It's a lot of fun and has a nice collection of miniatures to use in my Call of Cthulhu games. It's hard to get excited about a big license like Cyberpunk 2077, especially after the success of Netflix's Edgerunners and the Phantom Liberty DLC. The videogame has sold over 25 million copies. They must know that it will have an audience.
Go On Board has previously developed The Witcher: Old World, and The Witcher: Path of Destiny. Cyberpunk 2077: The Board Game is being crowdfunded on Gamefound.
