The Four Horsemen will once again ride in a new Darksiders video game.

Six years after Darksiders 3 and five years since the great but overlooked Darksiders Genesis, I admit that I had started to believe THQ Nordic gave up on the series. A new teaser suggests that this is not the case.

The video, which was first shown at the THQ Nordic Showcase in 2024, is not very interesting. It's just a shot of Charred Council (those rockers who order the Four Horsemen), looking as they always have. A blog post on Xbox Wire confirms that a new Darksiders game is coming: "It won’t be long before we reveal more about the Darksiders Series' next chapter, but for now... the Four Horsemen are going to ride again."

Does that mean the sequel will include all four characters, rather than focusing on just one or two as previous games did? You could even switch between them or play them in co-op. Okay, that's the only speculative thing I can think of for this game.

The teaser includes the Gunfire Games logo, which indicates that they will be developing this entry. To be honest, it does dampen my excitement. This is the studio behind Darksiders 3 which was not only lacking in charm but also tried a pivot to a more soulslike feeling at odds with its predecessors. I would hate to see the series go in that direction again.

But that was a very long time ago. Since then, the studio has released the Remnant series of games, which is a really good example of the post-apocalyptic setting a Darksiders title could benefit from. Gunfire Games, now older and wiser, can give it a shot.

Airship Syndicate would have been my choice, but I'm not sure. Not only was this team responsible for Genesis, which is a smaller-scale but more faithful sequel to 3, but it also included members of the original team that created the first two games, including Joe Madureira who designed the series' distinctive style.

Gunfire Games is the best option for us. At this point, I hope that THQ Nordic will find a new groove for Darksiders. It's struggled to gain any momentum since the collapse of THQ and Vigil Games. But it still feels like there is a lot affection for it. And personally, I'd love it to return to demon-smashing.
