Nvidia is preparing to release the last batch of the RTX3060, Steam's favorite GPU.

Is it too soon to discontinue the most popular GPUs of recent years? According to a recent report, Nvidia has begun distributing the final batches its GA106 graphics chip, which powers the GeForce 3060. If this is true, then the jolly, green giant will have officially closed the door on the GPU, which has dominated the Steam hardware charts since forever.

The GeForce 3060 was launched in early 2021 and stood out for many reasons. The global supply of graphics cards was extremely low at the time due to the effects of a global pandemic, and cryptominers grabbing every GPU around.

The RTX 3060 launched at $329 and was the cheapest Ampere model available, even though it had 12 GB of VRAM. It was not an instant hit, as its performance was not up to par, especially when compared with the RTX 3060Ti.

But hey, at the time, a GPU was more than sufficient. In the years that followed, however, the RTX 3060 quickly gained in popularity, and it has been at the top of the Steam hardware survey charts since a long time.

All good things must end, and according to a Board Channels report (via Videocardz), Nvidia has officially discontinued the GA106 GPU model. The last few batches will be the last.

It's successor, RTX 4060 has a long way before it becomes the most-popular GPU among Steam users. If it ever does. The RTX 3060 Ti and RTX 3070 are more popular than the RTX 4060.

Many PC gamers and reviewers were not happy with its 8 GB VRAM.

The RTX 4060 looks like a good 1080p graphics cards, especially when you consider the full DLSS 3.5 and the excellent NVENC video encoders. It feels more like a RTX '4050,' than a 60-class GPU. Had Nvidia marketed and priced it as such, the reception would be much better.

Imagine if RTX 4070 was sold as RTX 4060, with a $329 price tag. It would have been sold out immediately.

The RTX 3060 is still available at many retailers. However, its popularity has led to prices that are higher than they should be. The prices will probably drop dramatically once Nvidia releases the RTX-5060, but that won't be until January 2025.

Radeon RX6750 XT is a much better GPU if you want a good GPU for under $300. They were overpriced when they launched, but are much cheaper now. At 1080p it will give the RTX 4006 Ti a run for its money as long as you do not enable ray tracing.
