Bungie announced a fix for Destiny 2 and a way to say sorry. They will sell god-roll weapons in the game.
Weightgate provides a detailed analysis of the problem, but in a nutshell, Destiny 2 players started to suspect that certain weapon perk combinations were dropping significantly less than they should. Bungie claimed that there was not "intentional weighting" of perk combinations in Destiny 2 code. But after a deep analysis, which only true nerds could provide, the community proved that it was indeed a problem. Bungie confirmed that "a problem in perk pool randomness" was indeed causing problems.
A promised hotfix for tomorrow, Friday, November 5, has been announced. As a thank you to everyone who helped find the problem, Vesper's host dungeon is offering double drops from November 19 through December 3 for completing activities and encounters. Bungie stated on X that "Both weapons and armor rewards are available from completing encounters." This will be the perfect time to get your desired weapon rolls, or even to hit Master difficulty for some Artifice armor.
Exo-44, the gunsmith, will also offer some sweet firepower to players: "Starting on November 19, Banshee-44's small collection of weapons will be available in the Tower along with curated perk roll. We want to give you some of the harder perk combinations to earn because of the bug. We don't have a set deadline for acquiring these weapons, but we do recommend that you get them as soon as possible."
Here's a list of what's on offer:
- Rose Fluted Barrel Accurized Rounds Slideshot Explosive Payload Smooth Grip Handling MW
- Multimach: Polygonal Rifling + Attrition Orbs, Kinetic Tremors and Reload MW
- Indebted Kindness Smart Drift Control + Loose Coin + Voltshot and Velocity MW
- Compass rose – Light Mag, Snapshot sights, Slideshot, Handling MW
- Hothead Adept – Hard Launch + Impact Casing+ Tracking Module+ Clown Cartridge+ Reload MW
- Vs Chill Inhibitor: Countermass + Spike Grenades, Envious Arsenal, Bait and Switch, Reload MW
The Chill Inhibitor grenade launcher is the weapon that first raised suspicions about something being wrong. So, to be able snag a nearly perfect version of the meta weapon in the most recent dungeon, is quite a compensation.
Bungie has every reason to be generous in this case, as the loot issue in a looter-shooter for what seems to be years could have easily escalated into a larger controversy. Dmg04, the Community Lead, said that these weapons "may be 5/5 godrolls but we hope that they give some fun options to players who are hunting for specific perk combination." Some people disagreed with this assessment.
Bungie also promised a "deep-dive article" that would explain the Weightgate issue in depth, but warned it "may take some time." When it is ready, a target date will be announced.
