Treyarch has nerfed the Recon perk in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, meaning that your wallhacks will not last as long when you respawn.
Recon has become the focus of the players' disdain in the 10 days following the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. It's a "combat specialty" in Black Ops 6, which rewards players for equipping all the perks that have the same color theme. Equip a full set of blue perks and you'll get Recon. This will let you briefly see through walls when you respawn, much to the confusion of those who have played competitive FPS games.
Players, as you'd expect, haven't responded well to their enemies enjoying Activision-sanctioned wallhacks. Morgan Park, in his own call for Recon to be nerfed, wrote that "people are literally respawning, aiming at someone they can see from their spawn, and getting an unfair kill."
Treyarch has listened to those calls. In a Black Ops 6 update that arrived earlier today, the time it takes for Recon to highlight enemies through walls has been reduced from two seconds to just 1.5 seconds. This half-second reduction may seem a bit light, but Treyarch promises "another reduction will be coming prior to Season 01."
Treyarch stated in the patch notes that "as we enter Season 1, we continue to observe data and feedback regarding Perks and Combat Specialties for Multiplayer." "We are making some adjustments today, as we continue to take an holistic look at Perks and Combat Specialties going forward."
Treyarch points out, surprisingly, that Enforcer is the most popular combat specialization. This is because it speeds up health regeneration after a kill. They may be getting their kills more honestly and in a respectable manner, but they are missing out on the most powerful ability of the game.
You don't have to ask me why being able see through walls gives you an incredible advantage in a shoot-em-up game where the goal is to shoot other players before they can kill you. If it wasn't true, opponents wouldn't accuse you of wallhacks when refusing to admit that they're being outplayed. Even with a further nerf coming, I wonder if Recon can still be included with a reduction below 100%.
