A fan of Dungeons & Dragons' Githyanki created a Doom map that incorporates Baldur's Gate 3 where you can hang out and chat with them

If you're like me, Baldur’s Gate 3 threw your life into disarray and sent you on an arduous journey through computer and RPG history in search of the same magic. vikintor, a Brazil-based independent developer, took the lingering BG3 mania a step further by creating a custom Doom Map for his Githyanki Tabletop Characters to hang out in. The map was built using assets from Baldur's Gate 3 as a sort of extended, tertiary ending to one of the game's endings.

The Githmap is a unique experience, even without the Baldur's Gate or D&D connection. It's a hub from an RPG that is completely combat-free. It defaults to a third-person perspective. The Doom-like look of the game is a great match with the Planescape-like feel, which weaves cathedral interiors, wood paneled living areas, and surreal, industrial structures under an alien sky.

The map is huge, and even after half an hour of exploring I still didn't see everything: I have a red key, but only gold doors. My favorite Doom mod moment was a map secret which turned into a dream sequence. The level changed behind me as I explored the secret maze.

Baldur's Gate fans will find it delightful to see character models from the game - vikintor requested submissions from Githyanki gamers to populate the area - turned into 2D sprites. This brings things ironically closer to how the OG Baldur's Gate was presented.

I also love how it's set at the periphery to one of BG3 endings. You control an average Joe Githyanki during Lae'zel's and Orpheus' cosmic revolt, similar to a below decks episode in Baldur's Gate 3 The story doesn't "go" anywhere, but that's okay. It's a fun little fantasy.

Githmap is available for free at itch.io and doesn't require Doom. You can also keep up with vikintor’s other work by using itch or "The Everything App."
