Dragon's Dogma 2 Patch introduces a Casual Mode, which, among other things, stops your sick pawns blowing up everyone in a city.
Dragon's Dogma 2's reception was a wild ride. An otherwise colourful, bombastic RPG was slowed down by some mind-meltingly stupid microtransactions. The optics were worse than the reality.
I've still had a lot of fun getting ruined in Battahl. The game's willingness ruin your day with the slightest provocation was both hilarious and endearing. Dragonsplague, for example, is a great illustration. It's a disease that your pawns can contract, which if left untreated will kill an entire town of NPCs without much provocation.
You might like this patch if you're not as masochistic as I am. Dragon's Dogma 2 has a new casual mode where your sick pawns won't go nuclear. Here's the full list of differences in this new setting:
- Reduced fees for inn stays.
- Ferrystones reduced price
- It is more difficult to carry weight that is "Heavy" (or "Very heavy") than it was before. "
- Less stamina is expended when dashing away from battle.
- The loss gauge will not increase if you select "Load From Last Save" when the Arisen has died.
- Even if symptoms reach a terminal level, pawns will recover without suffering a "devastating catastrophe".
While it's nice to have the option, I wonder if making Dragon’s Dogma 2 easy to use defeats the whole purpose. The charm of this game is that you have to run between settlements and manage annoying backpacks while griffins dive-bomb your cart.
This is a game in which, during one play session, I took a cart to a different settlement, was ambushed halfway through by a group of enemies, had my pawn accidentally destroy the cart (they were prepared with Seism), and was then attacked by a Griffin. This game doesn't care about your plans, which is a positive for me.
The game has a few other attractions. This mode may help those who are less tolerant of hardships to get involved. It has a fun class system, solid fights and an expansive world. The patch contains a few notable changes, including performance improvements, balance tweaks, and more. The full list of changes can be found on the official website.
