FromSoft gives a massive nerf to Shadow of the Erdtree’s final boss. Players start printing their 'I defeated him pre-patch t-shirts' to lord it on the rest of us
Congratulations if you've already defeated Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree final boss. You are now one of the lucky few who can be insufferable for anyone who manages to beat it after today. FromSoft has just released a new patch that hands out some nerfs to the expansion's final fight, making it--frankly--baby-school stuff. Just pathetically simple. True gamers need not apply.
Okay, not really. The final battle is still going to be a challenge for anyone who doesn't have Let Me Solo Her skills, but it got easier with the new patch. Spoilers for the DLC final boss are ahead if that's what you're concerned about. I've played this game for tens of hour and still have no idea what's happening. Read the item descriptions. Who has the time?
Here are some of the biggest nerfs. Radahn does less overall. Less damage, stamina damage and range, as well as less flashy nonsense, could make it harder to read Radahn's upcoming attacks. This video shows the last change in action. FromSoft and say it's "Changed action pattern when battle starts" and has "Adjusted a few attack moves" for old boy. I'd just like to take a moment to appreciate how the studio extends their vague storytelling philosophy to its patch notes. Here's a video showing at least one of the new animations.

FromSoft has also added some PvP nerfs just for good measure. Backhand Blades, Spears' dual wield attacks, and Pata weapons' strikes now deal less damage to other gamers. Scattershot Throw, the DLC skill that lets you throw a bunch knives at your opponent, has also had its PvP damages reduced.
There's also patch stuff. There are bug fixes, little tweaks, and all the usual gimmickry that you'd expect. The full list of changes is below, but the nerfs - and in particular the nerfs for Radahn - are the main focus. FromSoft is aware of this, which is why they chose to put them at the top of the patch notes. Get your "I beat Radahn before nerf" tee shirts printed right now, just like the ER Community is joking. You are one of the lucky and rarefied few.

Final Boss Balance Adjustments
- When the battle begins, the action pattern is changed.
- Adjusted some attacks moves
- Reduced the damage caused by some attacks.
- Some attacks cause less stamina damage.

General balance adjustments
Equipment
- The following weapon types have increased the attack speed for the uncharged version first heavy attack:
- The following weapons are available: Dagger, Throwing Blade, Great Sword, Colossal Sword (except Serpent-Hunter), Axe, Flail and Great Spear.
- Hand-to-Hand arts weapon type
- Damage increases.
- Reduced recovery time between certain normal attacks and subsequent attacks.
- Weapon Type Colossal Sword
- Increase the distance between you and your opponent when attacking.
- The first normal attack is now faster.
- Backhand Blade Weapon Type
- Reduced the speed of normal attacks when crouching.
- Small Shield and Medium Shield Weapon Types
- Some shields now negate more damage when they block physical attacks.
- Some shields have been given a stronger guard.
- After using the Swift Spear to perform normal one-handed attacks, it will take longer to cancel into many actions.
- The Smithscript Dagger can now be thrown further.
- Rellana’s Twinblade now scales attributes based on Intelligence and faith.

- The damage animation recovery time has been adjusted when a heavy attack from a stance hits another player.

- The Great Hammer's spin can now be used to extend the attack range.
- Increased poise value, and faster generation of poise.
- The time for the damage animation to recover after a charged attack has hit another player was adjusted.

Bug fixes
- Items with Black Pyreflies will now appear correctly when they are resting on a site of grace.
- Fixed a bug in which performing a Light Greatsword Heavy attack while jumping didn't consume stamina.
- Fixed a bug that allowed unintended Weapon Skills to be used when equipping a Ballista with the left hand.
- Fixed a bug which caused critical hit damage to Taylew, the Golem Smith, when using certain weapons to be lower than intended.
- Fixed a bug which prevented the player from receiving runes if an enemy was killed with a shield.
- Fixed a bug that caused the hitbox of the Inescapable Frenzy Incantation to be incorrectly generated when cast using the Staff of the Great Beyond.

- Fixed a bug in which the Watchful Spirit Incantation attacks were sometimes invisible for other players when playing multiplayer.
- Fixed a bug in which the effects of certain tools and incantations weren't correctly applied when you tried to deflect or cancel.
- Performance improvements and other bug fixes
- Correction of a descriptive error that was incorrectly added to the game's credits in patch 1.12.
Possible unstable performance fixes
- Ray Tracing can be accidentally enabled in some PC versions and cause performance issues. Please check the Ray Tracing settings in "System" >"Graphics" > "Ray Tracing" on the title screen or menu.
- The message "Inappropriate Activity detected" can appear in the PC version without cheating. To resolve this issue, verify the integrity of your game's files and restart the game.
- Third-party applications that control mouse behaviour may be the cause of an unstable framerate in the PC version. Deactivating third-party applications can improve performance.
