Gaming laptops are often expensive. If you are looking for a laptop under $1,000, you may find it difficult to find one with a powerful GPU. And while the mobile RTX 4060 can deliver a 1080p gaming experience that is perfectly acceptable, the RTX 4070's power makes it feel like the lappys will not drop below the magic $1,000 figure.

This RTX gaming laptop is a great deal. I found this HP Victus 161-inch model at Best Buy for $900. While it's not perfect, it's hard to argue with its graphics power for the money.

Let's start with a warning: it's not a 140 W TGP 4070 but a 115W version. It may initially seem like a disappointment but it will still outperform a RTX-4060 GPU for mobile devices by a considerable margin. And it is much better equipped to deliver frame rates that are high enough to fit on a 144 Hz screen.

The panel's refresh rate is quite good for a laptop of this price. It's a 1080p panel, but it should be enough to get you the 144 frames per seconds that you want.

The rest of the components also aren't underpowered. The Ryzen 7 is a Zen 4-eight-core, 16-thread processor with plenty of power. It's paired with 16GB of DDR5-5600 RAM, which is faster than I expected to see at this cost.

The storage space is the final thing to consider. Unfortunately, the storage space is often limited to 512 GB in gaming laptops below $1,000. This is the case with this model. An SSD is the easiest upgrade to make on any machine. I would spend 10 minutes with my screwdriver to install a cheap 2 TB or 1 TB unit.

According to the PDF warning, there's only one SSD here. You'll have to do some drive-cloning to avoid having to install Windows completely. It's a bit of a pity, but it's not terribly difficult.

What GPU is this at this price? It's the cheapest RTX gaming laptop I've ever seen since Black Friday. This is a deal that's worth shouting about despite its shortcomings. It's hard to find a gaming laptop that is both cheap and powerful. If you are in the market, this one is worth serious consideration.
