Icarus, the co-op survival video game, is celebrating 153 weekly updates with a free flamethrower as well as a weekend away.
RocketWerkz, the developer of the co-op survival video game Icarus has been updating it continuously for the past three years. By continually, I mean weekly: the latest update is the 153rd one since December 2021. That's a whole lot of patches!
Icarus gives players a new flamethrower as a way to celebrate all the new features that have been added since the game's launch, including new missions and operations, new weapons and equipment, new creatures, and a whole fishing system. DLC has also doubled the map size.
Rocketwerkz will also give everyone a free weekend to encourage them to light up. Play the base game on Steam for free all weekend. If you're still interested, Icarus will be 50% off next week. There are also discounts on other editions and extensions.
If you haven't played before, the game is based on the idea that there was an initial rush of corporate miners to mine precious minerals from the planet Icarus. However, when terraforming the land for habitation, everything went wrong. The air is toxic, weather is harsh, and there is a mix of animal and alien life on the planet. Prospectors, like you and your friends, are now making trips from an orbiting station to collect resources.
I haven't played Icarus in a while, but I may play it this weekend or next. I see that cows will be added in the next update, and I am more of a farmer than a flamethrower fan. Even if you don't want a punishing experience, it's a great way to relax. You can build a homestead and raise alien creatures. You can also farm and fish.
Be careful when you invite friends over. I've had a few fires burn down my house accidentally, and this was before flamethrowers were added. Since I asked Dean Hall to send me several pictures of the flamethrower for this article, here are the others:
