Webfishing has added a title called 'Straight,' which costs 9,999 fish dollars.
Webfishing is a $5 chat room fishing game that was released last month. It includes a variety of cosmetic titles which you can collect and display to other players beneath your username. Many of them are sarcastic, such as Little Lad or Shithead. Other titles, such as the Gay, Ace Bi, and Trans, allow players to express their sexuality.
A Steam discussion forum user who is a keen intellectual noticed that there was no title for straight people. He felt compelled (via Rock Paper Shotgun) to bring the issue up. It's unclear if they noticed that the vast majority of human media assumes a straight perspective by default. It's easy to miss, but I assure you as a straight man: We are doing well on this front.
Not everyone can read a room well enough to not need to wonder if an indie game with anthropomorphic dogs and cats is not centered on the straight experience. I suppose it's something you learn. Despite the goofus behavior, however, Webfishing developer lamedeveloper was--as a sign of benevolence--receptive to the suggestion.
Webfishing has added the "Straight title" to its 1.09 Housecleaning update. It costs 9,999 dollars in-game. Comparatively, other titles are available for $75. It's also worth noting that this is the only title with quotations for orientation. It's a good bit.
Other additions to the Housecleaning update include bug and performance improvements, balance adjustments, Hand Labeler, which allows you to rename items, as well as a Non-Binary shirt title. Also, there's this note:
- Add the? ??????? Which is accessed via the? ??? ? ????? ??????? ?? ? ???????. Yeah.
It seems fine. I have a strong affinity for the new Creature game. I'll likely pick that up next time I want a Webfishing fix.
We can only speculate if the original complainant is satisfied with the addition of the straight representation. If not, you can always play almost any other videogame.
