It is chilling without being cheesy. Horrifying without being overt. Disturbing without being grotesque. I absolutely cannot wait to return to the Blackwood Sanatorium and make all the (right? wrong?) decisions this time around. The Inpatient is easily the most rewarding horror adventure to be had on the PSVR to date.

The Inpatient is one of PSVR’s best. It’s a shining example of presence and engagement. The visuals impress and it uses a ton of clever tricks to fully immerse the player in the experience of living out Blackwood Sanatorium’s final days, making me feel like I was actually there.

The Inpatient is one of the best horror games that Virtual Reality has these days. Supermassive Games has created a great example of how to create an immersive story and has brought it to life for PlayStation VR.

The Inpatient doesn't just do right by Until Dawn, but stands right alongside it as one of the strongest horror experiences on PlayStation 4. It's a game far less concerned with pushing you towards what's lurking down every corridor than feeding you the worst ideas of what could be.

The Inpatient has a great premise with excellent production values, but its hampered by poor controls and lackluster character development. As a prequel to Until Dawn, it does a great job of fleshing out the lore a bit more, but it’s a bit short to really stand on its own. That being said, the moments that are there and the scares that they produce are totally worth experiencing. Plus, more games should absolutely adopt the voice recognition dialog feature going forward.

Your mileage may vary if you come into the game expecting another blast-em-up like Rush of Blood but, if you take The Inpatient on its own merits, it’s an intriguing peek into what the future may hold for the quality of VR titles and stands as one of the most immersive experiences I’ve had with the technology yet.

A short but enjoyable horror experience, enriched by the Until Dawn-esque “Butterfly Effect” feature.

The Inpatient excels at immersing the player, and it looks gorgeous. Unfortunately it puts too many barriers between the player and ultimate success.

The Inpatient is a good virtual reality game for the horror genre. If you are looking for a pure horror game you may be a bit upset, but if you like mysterious stories, where dialogue is important and you already have a Playstation VR, it would be an enjoyable adventure.

Supermassive Games has aimed for something truly ambitious in the horror sector with The Inpatient. While there are some fine ideas in play, this brief psychological experience could've used a little bit more time in therapy.

Despite being developed for the same team that made Until Dawn, The Inpatient lacks of a thrilling story and nice motion controllers that can turn it into a memorable experience for the PlayStation VR.

Although peppered with flaws, this is an interesting experiment that rises far above tech demo.

The Inpatient is a difficult game to recommend, with inconsistent scares and a mundane cast. It still offers some frightful moments, but they aren’t wrapped up in a captivating enough narrative to keep you engaged. Even if you’re a hardcore Until Dawn fan, this watered-down horror experience is probably worth skipping.

I couldn't help but wish it was more, well, exciting. It's a technical marvel, but at times the experience feels hollow and uneventful. In the end, even though I'm glad to return to this universe, The Inpatient comes across as a bit of a missed opportunity.

While there’s the potential via various endings and story branches, the simple slog of The Inpatient has proven too much for me. Is it VR that’s the culprit, or does Supermassive already need a new hook?

The Inpatient's interesting premise and ideas cannot save a game plagued by a poorly-paced plot and boring gameplay.

The Inpatient looks good; sound goods and has a couple of interesting ideas, but it lacks purpose. It doesn't work as a walking simulator because the story isn't that good, and it doesn't work as a horror game because it lacks gameplay. If you want to be scared, though, it can be fun.

The Inpatient is a gorgeous VR game, but gaps in the story and a general lack of depth make it fall short of its potential.

Interesting yet limited VR game that puts you inside of an inmate in Blackwood Sanitorium, to experience a cinematic story that you can alter, but with little to no interactivity.

The Inpatient is a horror game that contains all the ingredients for a great game, but lacks the execution.
