Overwatch 2's season 13 trailer teases the arrival of a new tank character, whose name could be Spiker
Overwatch 2 offers another mystery that players must solve. The trailer for the upcoming witch themed season, Spellbinder features a new voice as the camera pans across a vandalized map's spawn room.
The voice that the YouTube captions attribute as "Scottish Man" says, "It looks like a revolution," when we take a look at the graffiti left on the Oasis map's spawn room. You can see "Fight Back" written on the wall and "Phreaks", and what appears to be an explosion of purple shards.
I think the shards are what an Overwatch hero might use to shoot. When I spoke with a former Overwatch dev last year, he told me that the next hero was named "Spiker". However, I suspect this is an internal codename. Much like Juno was called "Space Ranger" until she was revealed. I would guess the shards will be at the core of this new tank.
Overwatch players have already found an old image of "Phreak", a mohawked character who was originally created for the cancelled MMO Titan. In the original 2014 cinematic video, a trio of characters are shown, and one of them has what appears to be "Phreaks," written on the back. Maybe the name of the anarchist group was changed to the name for the hero.
If you looked closely at the footage shown at last year's BlizzCon you could barely make out an icon of a tank hero with bright green, spikey hair. This matches the hair color of one of characters in the cinematic preview and the color of graffiti in the new video.
There is not much information about the new hero, except that he'll be a tank. He won't be available until season 14. Blizzard is likely to let everyone play him for a few hours early in season 13, just like they did with Juno and Venture.
Season 13 has plenty to keep you entertained until then. There will be a lot of fun witch skins including a customizable mythic Widowmaker, as well as a new PvP with "talents cards" that change hero abilities. In the trailer, Reinhardt explodes when he charges, Moira fires three of her life-draining spheres at once, while Reaper can pick health orbs up after each kill.
Overwatch Season 13 begins on October 15th.
