Palworld, a Pokemon-like survival title that was a hit on PC in the first half of this year, has now been released on PlayStation 5. The announcement was made during Sony's State of Play Livestream.
Palworld is available on Xbox and Pocketpair announced earlier this year that crossplay functionality was in the works.
It's cool that the PS5 is finally here for console gamers who want to be part of a 2024 phenomenon. But it comes at a bad time for Pocketpair. After months of speculation about whether Nintendo would take action against Palworld for its similarity to Pokemon, they did. Nintendo sued the studio earlier this month for patent infringement.
We did some research and it appears that one of these patents has to do with throwing Poke Balls. Nintendo's super-lawyers have a good track record of winning cases, so the indie game will have a tough time.
Pocketpair stated after the lawsuit that it was "truly unfortunate" that they would have to devote significant time to non-game development matters due to the lawsuit. "We will do everything we can to protect our fans and ensure that independent game developers aren't discouraged or hindered from pursuing creative ideas."
