Shadows of Doubt - the immersive private-eye sim from procgen - will be leaving early access in a month.

Shadows of Doubt's procedurally generated cities, crime solving simulations and sandbox quickly won us over. After 17 months of improvements and additions, we will see how well this potential has been realized on September 26, 2024, when the cyberpunk investigator sim reaches its 1.0 release.

Since the launch of Shadows of Doubt's early access, I have spent several dozen hours navigating its intricate web of simulated life that Shadows of Doubt creates for its citizens who walk the rain-slick streets of the sprawling voxel city. Every NPC has a home, occupation, relationships and routine which intersects with their roommates, colleagues and acquaintances. It's no surprise that one of these NPCs will commit a murder. After all, it is a noir simulation.

I've bribed office clerks to let them into their apartments after 2AM, so I can check the shoe size of their bartending partner. I've thrown chairs out of windows to scramble into businesses and check if any fingerprints on their file cabinets match those I found on a murdered weapon. Shadows of Doubt has a different puzzle for every crime. There are so many possible solutions that I don't mind the fact that I have accused the wrong person many times. The thrill of the chase, unfortunately for the public, is all that this private detective requires.

Shadows of Doubt has made the chase more exciting over its early access run. Shadows of Doubt's early access run has seen performance improvements, bug fixes, and a variety of NPC conversations, documents, and emails. It also received new building types and location types, as well as new types of murders to crack, including snipers who have been lax with their trigger discipline.

ColePowered Games, the developer of Shadows of Doubt, says that there will be even more to see once Shadows of Doubt leaves its early access period next month. They promise "major updates in content and features" over the coming weeks.
