Silent Hill 2 Enhanced Edition has completed its final update with its 10th version.

Silent Hill 2 Enhanced Edition has released its final update, after a long-running fan project to improve Silent Hill 2’s original PC port. This update, as the video shows, adds features such as "enhanced environment assets, restored flashlight reflections, improved water visuals and true 60 fps fMVs."

I played Silent Hill 2 Enhanced Edition a few updates ago, and it was a beautiful HD version of Silent Hill 2 at the time. This patch makes a lot of changes, but they are minor compared to what the Enhanced Edition has to offer. For example, it allows you to play the classic survival horror game in widescreen with upscaled graphics on modern hardware.

It's still fascinating to see all the little tweaks that the team made before saying goodbye Silent Hill 2. Silent Hill 2 has been updated to fix a number of glitches. For example, the sign for Cafe Texan is now displayed correctly. Other fixes include the fixing of various Z-fighting glitches that caused textures to overlap at windows and doors, incorrect textures, a payphone that's missing, and model seams that are bugged out, such as the one on the hot dog cart cover.

The project completion notes state that "if any major bugs or problems are found, which are directly caused by the changes to our project’s code for this last update, we will return and address them." This is the last update for Silent Hill 2 Enhanced Edition, assuming that they don't have to. The timing was not planned to beat Bloober’s remake. "This (Update#10) update was planned to be our last update for the past two years. After nearly seven years of work on the project, we are happy with what we have developed and achieved for the game.
