The Sims 4’s next season is all about business as usual, with two kits, an expansion themed around death, and a new log-in rewards event.

The Sims 4 celebrated its 10th anniversary this week, and it seems that * checks the notes* everything is as usual. EA released a list with patch notes, longer than usual thanks to the bug-defeating team it announced, and also a roadmap of the next Sims 4 DLC suite, appropriately titled "To Be Continued". This train doesn't stop, people.

To Be Continued will not be teased with cute teasers as Season of Love was. Instead, it will only reveal names and dates. Here's what's coming:

  • September 19, Storybook Kit and Artist Studio Kit
  • September 24, Reaper’s Rewards Event
  • October 3, First reveal the Life and Death Expansion Pack
  • October 31, Life and Death Expansion Pack Release Date

According to EA's blog post, this is the content we can expect from September through December.

It's to be expected that $5 kits will be available in a few weeks. We're used to them, like the castles and goth costume kits that were released simultaneously earlier this year.

The reaper's reward event is one of several newer content drops that were introduced earlier this year as part of the Happy At Home campaign. If the new rewards event is anything like the previous one, you can expect to earn a few free items by starting The Sims 4 several times a week for a couple of weeks. The Happy At Home rewards consisted mainly of reskins for items that were otherwise only available as part of expansions, which was nice. This one seems to be themed around the upcoming expansion. I wonder if we will receive existing items or new ones.

"Speaking about Grim, the fan favorite hooded character will make an appearance in Life and Death Expansion Pack," EA states of the pack, calling it "an infinite journey through life and beyond."

I'm surprised to see that there's an entire expansion pack themed around life and death. What kind of neighborhood world will be included with this? Given the release date, I'd guess that it will be themed around Dia de Muertos. We just got the Lovestruck expansion, which featured a world based in Mexico City. It would be surprising if they went back there again. We only have the tarot theme of the video to go on. We don't know what Create-A-Sim outfits and styles we will get. A set of headstones, perhaps? Lots of black lacey dresses? As far as expansion themes are concerned, it's pretty abstract.

We have to wait about a month before we find out all the details.

While EA didn't make a big fuss about the 10th anniversary of Sims 4, we took the time to reflect on our own. You can read about 10 major Sims 4 Features I forgot it didn't include at launch. Mollie Taylor's opinion of how The Sims 4 really shows its age. And you can see a revamped list of the best Sims 4 DLCs and expansions (and the price you should wait until they go on sale before buying them).
