Stardew Valley creator: I could work on it until the end of my life and want to keep sharing new content with players

Stardew Valley's updates will end at some point, right? Eric "ConcernedApe", the creator of Stardew Valley, has been working on this game since 2011. He's also been updating it continuously since its launch in 2016. He is also working on Haunted Chocolatetier, a new game. Surely the end is near. It doesn't seem to be the end.

Barone told Nintendo Life that he had "so many ideas" for Stardew. "I feel that I could work on Stardew for the rest my life and just keep improving it. I would add more stuff, more content, and flesh out the existing content."

Fans are a major reason why he keeps working on Stardew. There are a lot. 35 million copies were sold, with around half on PC. Stardew has largely avoided the toxicity and entitlement that can sometimes accompany massively popular games.

Barone said that "Stardew has a really small indie feeling to it, even though it is very popular." "Like the community, the actual game, and how people view the game," he added. Barone said that he wanted to continue creating new things and share them with the millions players who were hungry for more.

"I feel that I want to keep this alive, keep it new, delight the fans because it's fun to engage with it," he said. "It is a rare opportunity that I have, because there are so many people who love the game and will play any update I make. What I love to create is things that people can share with them and have an experience. Stardew is a great platform for this because it's very popular and still really active."

It's not easy to do, considering he is also working on Haunted Chocolatier. "It's hard," he said. "I don't wish to see the game die, I want it to continue, but I also want to create a new one."

Barone is a sole developer, but he gets help with Stardew updates now. "Mostly on the coding," says Barone.

It doesn't seem like the updates will stop anytime soon. Even then, the game's modders will keep bringing new content.
