Vermintide 2 finally has its long-awaited versus game mode. This mode allows two teams of four players to take turns playing as either the heroes or the evil Pactsworn. You'll need to complete objectives to earn points when you are the heroes. When you are the Pactsworn, you will want to slow the heroes down or kill them. Your scores will be compared after both teams have taken their turn.
The five Pactsworn specials that you can choose from--the ratling runner, gutter runner (also known as a gutter runner), warpfire throwner, packmaster and poison wind globadier --play very differently than the furless manthings that you are used to controlling. They can't do anything but climb up to ambush positions. When setting them up, you'll have to be careful because the Pactsworn specials make distinct noises when they move and are silent when they stand still.
The maps are familiar, but they're also different. It also has a new progress system. You can earn rewards by completing challenges in versus mode matches.
Vermintide 2 is hosting a series "versus spotlight" events over the next five weekends to showcase the new mode. The first event is dedicated to Kerillian and the gutter-runner. A mini-season pass will unlock in-game currency and skins as well as portrait frames and weapon poses. You can earn these rewards even if your not playing versus mode. However, you will be able to contribute to a kill count by killing those pesky heroes. This will unlock a gutter runner for all players, if the counter is filled.
Fatshark, the developers of Vermintide, announced that a third expansion is also on its way. It's a three map expansion called Verminous Dreams. The first map is set to be released on December 9 and the rest will follow in early 2025.
