Diablo 4 players find the secret ring that they've been searching for since the game launched a year ago -- and it's trash

A group of Diablo 4 treasure hunters, who banded themselves together on the Not Finding A Cow Level Discord to solve one of the longest-running mysteries in the game, have solved a mystery by uncovering an event that was previously only theorized about and a unique, never-before-dropped ring. The short version: They uncovered an event which rewarded them with rare Lucky Coins. They then dropped each coin into a wishing-well, which sparked the meteor storm, before each member received a Ring of Misfortune.

Hold on: misfortune! Dataminers first discovered the existence of this ring shortly after Diablo 4 was released, but players have not been able to find it. This is understandable, given all the hoops that are involved. The chain of events is triggered by several factors: the group must be playing each class, the greed shrine must be active, and a lucky hit stat of 50% or higher will increase the chance of the Lucky Coin being dropped.

The entire thing revolves around triggering an event in the Scosglen region, during which a poor soldier NPC is butchered by monsters. The Greed Shrine is active and each player must loot the NPC corpse to receive a lucky coins. I like the flavour text "Hopefully it will bring you better luck than its previous owner."

All of the players Jimpen (Ecledia), Tweaked (Teire), and Raffi1337 scored the required drop. The group then headed East of Cerrigar, in Scosglen where they found a wish well. After dropping their Lucky Coins in the well, everyone was given the title of "Well-Wisher". Then it began to rain... Meteors. After a short shower, the ring fell. Below you can see the whole thing.

So... that ring. The stats are mediocre, but it's the Lucky Hit modifier that gives the game its name.

Ring of Misfortune

  • Ring
  • 925 Item Power
  • +13.0% Resistance against All Elements
  • +13 All Stats
  • +13 Armor
  • +13 Thorns
  • +13 Maximum Life
  • +13 Life per Second
  • Lucky Hit: There is a chance of losing all your Resources.
  • The ring looks ordinary, but it makes you feel frightened.
  • Requires Level 1

This ring is also not refundable, tradable, or resaleable, so it will remain with the character for life. Some have immediately linked this discovery to the ongoing, sometimes unhinged, search for Diablo 4’s secret cow level. The holy grail of this game's puzzle hunters. But no one knows whether this is a step forward or the end.

Diablo 4 may not have started off the best from a player's perspective, but at this point any scourge is eating well. The "Loot reborn" event this year was a big hit, and it changed the game in many ways that were needed. Season 5 is continuing the good work as we head towards the main event, the Vessel Of Hatred expansion scheduled for October 8.
