Diablo 4's Return to Hell season 5 boosts the game-breaking loot of Diablo 4.
Blizzard's changes to loot for Diablo 4's final season were successful in revitalizing the action RPG. However, there was a problem: A whole tier of loot became more or less outdated. Unique items with the most creative effects - like a wand which teleports sorcerers randomly - couldn't compete against the new power of legendary items.
Blizzard is boosting the power of every unique item in Diablo 4 for season 5, which begins next week. It says the goal is to make unique items that rival Diablo 4’s ultra-rare ‘uber’ uniques for the specific builds they enable. You'll be tempted to build your entire build around these items when they drop in Season 5.
The few uniques Blizzard showed (and cataloged by Wowhead), look absurdly strong compared to their previous versions. Here are some examples:
- Howl from Below - Necromancer: Now boosts speed and damage to corpse explosions instead of giving a small chance of stuning and fearing enemies
- Staff of Lam Esen : now adds a chance of 75% for charged bolts being cast twice, instead of a tiny damage increase.
- Saboteur's signet (rogues): Now explodes grenades with greater power and force instead of just giving you more health.
- Fields of Crimson (barbarian): Now boosts your damage when you bleed enemies instead of just a small increase in damage.
- Greatstaff of Crone - (druids): Storm strike now always hits two enemies for heavy damages instead of a few small increases.
Diablo 4's new tempering feature allows you to add new stats to legendary gear. Blizzard can choose what stats to give you, as uniques are not customizable. With masterworking upgrades you can increase these bonuses much higher than their base value, which will encourage you to find ways to incorporate them into your build.
Blizzard revealed in its season 5 blog that 'Ubers'--now called mythic uniques --are also changing. The most sought-after unique was the subject of Blizzard’s post. The most powerful stat of the coveted Harlequin Crest (also known as "shako" by Diablo 2 players) has been almost tripled. The helmet gives players a 20% cooldown reduction on every skill. This can be increased to 54% by masterworking. Since the power of the regular uniques is increasing this season, it's only natural that the rarest items would also increase in power.
Blizzard will also introduce a new wave based roguelite Dungeon called Infernal Hordes during season 5. This will be a permanent part of Diablo 4's endgame buffet. Infernal Hordes is like playing Hades in a single hellish room. You fight waves of demons and can make them harder for better rewards at the end. The run ends if you die too many times. Infernal Hordes is the centerpiece of Season 5 and will be a main source of more than 50 new legendary and exclusive items Blizzard adds to the game.
The Season of the Infernal Hordes will begin next week, on August 6, and run until the release of the Vessel of Havoc expansion on October 8. This is one month shorter than the previous season.
