Gearbox boss says Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is bigger than Borderlands 1: 'It is reasonable for our fans expect more there.'

Randy Pitchford, CEO of Gearbox, says Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is a fantasy-themed spin-off from Borderlands that was "wildly popular" and that fans can expect more in the future. Pitchford's remarks echo what he stated around the launch Wonderlands when he said Gearbox could have "a new series" in the fantasy series.

"What we showed with the first Wonderlands was that there is something there. Pitchford said that the game was "wildly successful" and "exceeded our expectations" in an interview with GamesRadar+ at San Diego Comic-Con.

"We achieved a better result with the Wonderlands game than with the Borderlands game," said he, "so we can build on that."

Pitchford also made it clear that he and the Gearbox studio shared a love of fantasy and that, given the success of the game, "it is reasonable for our fans" to expect more. Pitchford's remarks are similar to what Take-Two executives said during the launch Tiny Tina Wonderlands a few short years ago.

Pitchford has confirmed that Gearbox will release another Borderlands game in the mainline series. Wonderlands is a spinoff, but a pattern could emerge where a Wonderlands title appears after a Borderlands game, using the technology pioneered by the flagship series.

Gearbox was sold by the struggling Embracer Group to Take-Two at a price of $460m. This sale included the Borderlands franchise along with Homeworld, Risk of Rain and Homeworld.

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands received a good to excellent rating from critics, but not rave reviews. PC Gamer's 70% review will tell you more.
