Dragon Age: The Veilguard's game director says Inquisition epilogue DLC should have been included in the base game

Dragon Age: The Veilguard will have its work cut when it comes to orienting its players in its world. It's not just that it's the fourth installment in a series where the last game was released 10 years ago. The beginning of the story is based on a chapter from the previous game. Veilguard's director of games said that Dragon Age: Inquisition’s final DLC should have been included as part of the base game because it is so important to the story.

After the recent Veilguard Preview Sessions, during which I played and felt like BioWare could be coming back, MrMattyPlays questioned game director Corinne busche about DLCs.

Busche, Inquisition’s final DLC, says: "I'm a big fan of Trespasser." "If I had to criticize anything, it would be that Trespasser was so central to Dragon Age: Inquisition's story that maybe this should have been included in the base game."

This is not the first criticism that BioWare has given to previous Dragon Age games. But it is the most deserved. Solas, the magical scholar member of your party in Dragon Age: Inquisition vanishes at the end without explanation. The ending teaser reveals that Solas is the Dread Wolf, the former title of The Veilguard. However, you won't see him as an antagonist until the Trespasser DLC 10 months later. This DLC delves into a great deal about Solas' goals and motivations, and provides a lot of context for The Veilguard.

If you haven't played that DLC or don't watch lore explainer YouTube Videos, you might come into The Veilguard and wonder when Solas became a guy who destroys the world for the greater cause. It wasn't the vibe he had in Inquisition.

It's not the first time a Dragon Age title has taken over from a previous game's DLC. Dragon Age 2 Legacy's DLC introduced Corypheus who would later become Inquisition main villain.

It seems that The Veilguard will not leave a hypothetical future Dragon Age game with a similar situation. "We wanted to make it the most complete, out of the box package we possibly could--from the player experience to the narrative--everything else," Busche says.

It's less clear if The Veilguard will have its own DLCs. MrMatty claims that BioWare confirmed that there were no DLC plans for The Veilguard in the video interview. Busche said: "Never Say Never, but Right Now the Team is Focused on Making Sure This Is the Right Game."

I've heard a lot of game directors dance about committing to future plans before a game launch. That's not my interpretation. This sounds more like "we haven’t announced that" than "we aren’t doing that".

It sounds like there will be no story DLCs in the future for The Veilguard.
