Elon Musk said that too many game studios were owned by giant corporations, so his giant corporation will start a studio in order to'make gaming great again'

Elon Musk, owner of X, has taken a break from posting racist, transphobic, and conspiracy theories nonsense. He says that gaming has become "woke" due to the dominance of massive corporations. So he will use his massive corporation to launch a new studio powered by artificial intelligence "to make games again great!"

Musk's latest outburst was in response to Dogecoin creator Billy Markus who said he didn't understand why game developers and journalists had become "so ideologically captured," especially given that gamers -- real players, one must assume --"have always rejected stupid manipulative BS and can tell when someone's an outsider poser."

Musk, the owner and CEO of X SpaceX and Tesla, whose net worth is around $322 billion, said that there are too many game studios owned by large corporations. "xAI will start an AI studio to make games awesome again!"

Musk's motivations were made clear in a post he wrote: "Can't we just make good games without the woke lectures?"

This is all utterly, depressingly stupid. It starts with the premise that, um, a giant corporation will save videogames. xAI may be a "startup," but it already has 100,000 Nvidia graphics cards at its disposal. This means that the company is already a multibillion-dollar operation. Musk's concept for an "AI game-studio" is never explored, but it's presumably some sort holodeck inspired nonsense, which, like the promise of off-world colonization in the near future, lives entirely within the realm of fantasy.

Musk's tweet, despite its obvious absurdity, is gaining traction in predictable corners of the platform. They are excited about the prospect of returning game ownership to the people, which is to say, the richest man in the entire world. One game designer does not seem to agree with Musk's tweet.

Battlecruiser 3000 AD is not a bad movie.

Musk is unlikely to go beyond a stupid idea that was expressed in a tweet, but I still have a small hope he will convince himself, just as he convinced himself of the need to buy Twitter. If that happens, then I would expect similar results. Amazon and Google, who both have virtual bottomless funds, learned the hard way how difficult it is to make and release videogames.

I've reached out X to get their opinion on Musk's newest idea. I will update this post if I hear back.
