Even Uwe Boll has a negative take on the Borderlands film fiasco: "Now you wish I had directed!"

Borderlands continues to suffer from a series of bad reviews, and has now been dealt the cruelest insult yet. Uwe Boll, a renowned film director and full-time trolling, has reacted with glee to the film's poor reception.

Boll shared an image on Facebook that he stole from IGN. The site says the film made only $8.8M on its opening weekend despite a budget of $115M. Boll writes "Haha." "My movies were R-rated and made more money than that." You wish I had directed."

Let's set aside the last part for a minute: have Boll movies made more than 8,8 million dollars? If you add them all together, they have. StopSkeletons, a Twitter user, replied to Boll and provided some stats. Boll's greatest success was House of the Dead which opened at $5.5 million and had a final gross of $14.85 million. Add the opening weekends of Alone in the Dark (2.8 million) as well as Bloodrayne (1.5 million), and you have $9.8 millions, spread over three movies. Boll has directed many other films.

What is the response of our man Uwe? The absurd claim that his films have been downloaded illegally 41 billion (yes "billion" with an "b") times. Boll continues to use insults like "nerds", "idiot sandwiches", and the classic, "your mother" to describe people.

Naro Video requests an "Eli Roth/Uwe-Boll boxing match." The winner gets to direct Zelda. Boll reposted my favourite Simpsons meme, which is the one about Martin dunking Bart.

Boll's not done, of course. He then reposted his original mockery and added "But will gamers contact Stride Gum to persuade the makers to give a pack of gum for each person who signs the petition Eli Roth cannot direct?"

If you can't make sense of this, I'll help you out: It's an allusion to a campaign sponsored in the early 2000s by Stride gum, where they offered a free pack of gum to anyone who signed a protest demanding that Boll stop making terrible movies. As you can see, it didn't work.

Boll claims that "now you want me to direct." Boll has never been mentioned as a director for Borderlands, but Boll is known to be a prolific videogame adapter and often puts himself forward to any project. He may have put his hat into the ring and been unceremoniously overlooked at some point.

It's strange to feel bad for Eli Roth but Uwe Boll inspires the most bizarre reactions. Borderlands is a bit of a disaster, but I can't imagine it being worse than an Uwe Boll film.
