Place tiles to create flourishing ecosystems with Preserve, a puzzle game.
Preserve, a new tile placement game, has a cool concept: Create flourishing eco-systems by putting down water, animals, and plants to create environments within your larger biome. This will sustain ever-more complex ecosystems. It's a puzzle, because everything you put has a symbiotic relationship with everything else. As a simple example, flowers and bees need each other.
The developer says that "Preserve" is a relaxing puzzle game where you can create a vibrant ecosystem through cleverly placing animals and plants.
Preserve is different from other tile-placement PC games in that its biomes are able to expand vertically as well as horizontally. By stacking biomes, you can create new regions with higher altitudes and different plants and creatures. You can also recycle the cards that represent the tiles to create natural wonders, such as the Alps and massive redwood forests.
Early access has three biomes that you can build and flourish in. Future releases will include more puzzles, achievements, a compendium and more biomes. It launched with a nice picture mode that allows you to share your creations by adjusting time of day and sun position.
Preserve is likely to appeal to those who loved Dorfromantik. However, I think that there are elements of Terra Nil in this game as well.
Preserve is currently on sale for $12.50 on Steam, but you can get 20% off until August 22, 2018. It was developed by Bitmap Galaxy, a Slovakian studio, and published by Grindstone.
