God of War Ragnarok has been reviewed poorly and some mods are questionable because it requires a PSN Account. Players aren't happy.

God of War Ragnarok, like most PlayStation first-party titles, requires a PSN Account. This is a fact we've been aware of since the State of Play in early this year. A short blog post at the bottom of the webpage also mentions it. Just because it's not a surprise, doesn't mean players are happy.

God of War Ragnarok currently has a "mixed review" status on Steam. This is due to some players bombing the review. One reviewer said that the PSN requirement was ridiculous. It's a pity. I love the God of War series but I don't like this ransom approach.

Some are willing to ignore the situation, but only if Sony follows a few simple demands: "Sony managed to piss off PC gamers with this one. They must do something to make up with the PC community. They need to first backtrack on the PSN issue, and then announce Bloodborne for PC. We'll forgive them if they do. "Now, where did I place that copium?"

The main complaint of those who oppose PSN accounts, and the argument they use, is that it can prevent a large number of players from playing the game. If PSN is not available in your country, you will not be able to access any of these PC port games. "Man, I hate living in a country where you could buy these games but then slowly lose that ability," says one player. "I'm told 'Well, X is not at fault, Ys are', like I can't play the game legally. It doesn't matter who is at fault."

Some have even tried to mod themselves out of the need for a PSN, but with little success. Some mods claim to allow users bypass signing in to a PSN Account, but this is not a long-term fix. Many comments mention that the success rate of mods is patchy and the future does not look promising: "Judging from how quickly Sony patches the game to fix certain weaknesses, you have a lot of hard work ahead of you in order to keep this updated. We're all rooting you on to succeed. "Screw the PSN account requirement."

This storyline is overused, but history often repeats itself. Helldivers 2 also had similar problems when Sony implemented a PSN requirement following the release of the game. This meant that players who already purchased and played it were denied access if they resided in countries without PSN access. This led to a swarm of players running to review-bomb Helldivers 2 in Steam. Arrowhead then undertook a lengthy cleaning mission to win back the trust of players.

Ghost of Tsushima PC port was no different, even though a PSN account was only required to play multiplayer. Signing into a PSN or linking accounts isn't a catastrophe unless you are directly affected by the lack of PSN in your country.

Fair enough, many players are aware of this. A growing number of God of War: Ragnarok Steam reviews reflect an appreciation of it or even bring up genuine complaints, such as technical issues that cause the game to crash. If you look at Steam’s Top Sellers you'll find God of War Ragnarok at number nine. This means that there are a lot of people who don't have any issues with PSN.
