GTA Online's console exclusive enhanced edition is finally coming on PC
Rockstar has finally announced that it will bring the PC version Grand Theft Auto Online up to parity with its "enhanced edition" available on consoles since the past two year.
GTA Online was released on Xbox Series X-S in March 2022, with a number of "technical improvements and graphical enhancements." Since then, this version of the game received exclusive upgrades, including ray-tracing and GTA+, which offers players a variety of monthly content and cash drops. We said last year that PC players felt left behind because... well, they were.
In September, Rockstar integrated BattlEye's anti-cheat system into GTA Online. This was the first real indication that PC players were finally being brought up to date. BattlEye's inclusion in the game almost a decade after its launch seemed odd. However, Rockstar Games fan Tez2 speculated that it was "preparations for the Gen9 version of Grand Theft Auto 5 on PC."
It turns out that he was right. S features of GTA Online to the PC platform in the new year."
Reddit users are concerned that the graphical enhancements will negatively impact performance on older PCs (remember, GTA Online is more than 10 years old, so it's undoubtedly being run on some aged rigs). Some players are worried that the graphical improvements will negatively impact the performance of older PCs. (Remember, GTA Online has been around for more than 10 year, so it is undoubtedly running on some old rigs.) Others expect Rockstar to dodge that issue by adding only the enhanced-exclusive contents and excluding visual enhancements like ray-tracing.
The question is whether the enhanced edition for PC will be free or have a price. I've contacted Rockstar to find out more information on this front. However, given how secretive Rockstar is about these things, I'm not optimistic.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is still slated to be released on consoles in 2025, but the PC version has not been confirmed. We are confident that it will eventually come to PC. But the timeframe is the question. It took seven months for Grand Theft Auto 4 and a year-and-a-half for GTA 5 for the switch. Red Dead Redemption? 14 and a 1/2 years. GTA 6 should be a bit quicker.
